Doom Forge: Dawn of Legends

Doom Forge is a multiplayer matched-based fighting game. The game does use true 3D graphics. The character models are detailed and interesting to look at. Unfortunately, some of the textures and lighting effects have noticeable problems. You can sometimes see sharp differences in colors where the polygons meet on clothing, hair and faces. The animations in the game are smooth and done well. There are powerful sound effects for different attacks. The music in Doom Forge creates a good atmosphere for the gritty combat gameplay. There is an options menu where you can adjust sound, graphics and whether you want to see blood animations.

You start in Doom Forge by creating your character. There are many different customization options. You can make a fairly unique looking character right away. You do not have to register to play although you get in-game bonuses if you do. You can pay real-world money to become a member with added perks like extra experience. You can choose from a few different classes such as paladin, berserker and blade master. Each has a distinctive set of skills to use in combat.

Gameplay in Doom Forge is based around matches. You face off against another player of a similar level. It is just you and the other player. You use your special attacks to deal damage, heal yourself or cripple your enemy. There are no computer-controlled opponents. Combat is simple and strategic. The effects of you special skills are sometimes complex. You win by beating your opponent twice out of three rounds. You get experience, skill points and silver when you win a match.

You can upgrade your characters skills and traits as you progress. You can focus on dealing more damage, increasing your defense or making better use of your special skills. You also unlock passive abilities as you rise in levels. This allows you to build a character that matches your play style.

There is a non-combat crafting portion of Doom Forge. You can use various resources you purchase or win to create ancient weapons, armor and potions. The crafting in the game is very basic and really relies on your ability to acquire various resources. It is still a good option to have since you can make your own items to use or sell in the market.

Doom Forge is an interesting game for anyone who likes pure player-versus-player combat in a simplified arena environment. One drawback is that there is very little information within the game. The only chance you have to learn is through a practice match against another player at the start. If you want to battle real players and fight to the top of the rankings, then Doom Forge is the game for you.
