Vectorpark's game is technically a point and click puzzle game. It is
different from many other games because it uses a very abstract concept. So, it is more like an interactive art piece than a game. The
game starts immediately. It does not have a menus, options or buttons.
The graphics are cute and fun. The game is intended to be somewhat
silly. The simplicity of the graphics is intentional because it makes
it easier to hide things on the screen. There are basic sound effects
although most of the gameplay is completely silent.
The one and only thing that you see after loading Feed the Head is a
large silhouette of a head in the center of a blank screen. The head
does have eyes that will follow your cursor around the screen. There
are no initial instructions. The only way you interact with the game is
through the mouse. One of the first things that you learn is hovering
your mouse over certain parts of the screen will cause an arrow icon to
appear. Your mouse icon also changes in some locations. The only
guidance that you receive is that your head is hungry and you must find a
 way to feed it.
Point and click on different parts of the head will cause a variety of things
to happen. Even hovering over things sometimes has an effect. Clicking
on the eyes, for example, causes the head to start crying. The tears
flow down to the bottom of the screen. You can make the head yawn and
do a few other things. You begin to realize that there are nonsensical
things in the game as you start to hover over areas like the forehead.
Clicking a box on the forehead produces a projector that shows an
animation you can click on to get spheres. Various things happen to the
head as you discover additional clickable things.
One of the main problems with Feed the Head is that there is no
direction and no sense of progress. Making things such as hair or spots
appear on the head is fun although there is no way to know how this
affects the game. There is no indication that you are doing something
correct even when you do manage to feed the head. Feed the Head is an
interesting game for people who like problem solving. Not everyone is
likely to enjoy attempting to play Feed the Head.
