“Forklift Simulator” uses true three-dimensional graphics in a three-quarters view. Everything in the game is modeled very well. The boxes, obstacles, racks and forklift all have enough detail to be visually interesting without being overwhelming. There is a lack of music in the game. The opening menu screen is silent.
The sound effects during play, however, are well
done. You really get the feeling of being in a warehouse around heavy
equipment.
The goal of this game is to operate a forklift and successfully move
boxes between various positions in a warehouse. Everything is
controlled through the keyboard. The arrow keys allow you to
accelerate, reverse and turn around. Actually controlling the forklift
is very challenging at first. A slight input delay makes the forklift
feel sluggish. The turn radius of the forklift is something you have to
get used to quickly since navigating the warehouse is difficult. The W
and S keys are used to raise or lower the forks. This can get
complicated since there are several different pre-determined levels for
the forks to sit at.
You start the Forklift Simulator in tutorial mode attempting to get your license.
Every level is timed so that you cannot just do things slowly. The
basic goal of the game is to drive to a truck, pick up a box and then
stack it on a rack. The racks are at various heights making it a
challenge to use the forks correctly. You also have to pick up various
boxes from the racks and move them to the backs of other trucks. A kind
of wonky physics is involved in this simulator game. Driving the forklift often
causes the box on the forks to wobble and fall off.
There are six levels in the game each with increasingly more difficult
challenges, time limits and layouts. It required a large amount of
skill to actually do things such as lift boxes off high racks safely and
get everything done in the time limit. A slightly drawback is that
some of the physics in the game are a little too extreme or unrealistic.
This means you can never really rely on thinking about what would
happen in the real world while playing the game. “Forklift Simulator”
is a challenging game that will test your patience. It is worth giving a
try.
