Broswer-based strategy MMO games are a dime a dozen. Some of these are not worth your time, but others are a nice escape from reality. So where does Goodgame Empire fall on this spectrum? Check out our review to find out!
Goodgame Empire is completely free to play after you create an account. The game is a browser-based MMO created by the German game developer Goodgame Studios. Despite
the fact that the game is an MMO, you do not have to devote a large
amount of time to the game in order to progress. During the game, you
become the lord of a new empire. Your goal is to build this empire to
greatness and battle other empires, which are controlled by other
players.
The look of the game is very upbeat and colorful. It appears that they
chose this kind of graphical style to ensure that the game did not come
across as too intimidating for newcomers to MMO games. That being said,
the game is animated extremely well, and it is easy to tell what is
going on. Although the controls and interface leave a little to be
desired because they can be a little sluggish at times, the game is far
from unplayable.
To start with, you will build up resources (food, wood and stone) so
that you can build structures. It takes a bit of time for structures to
be completed, but you do not have to sit there and micro manage the
building of any structure. Instead, you are free to participate in
quests while you wait for your structures to be built. These quests
reward you with experience points, which will help you grow levels and
open the door for the construction of better structures.
Battling other empires is also a big part of the game. You can team up
with other players to take on bigger empires. If you win player vs
player battles, you are rewarded with “Honor,” which is a type of
point-based system that will rank you on the game's online leader
boards.
Conclusion:
For being a free MMO, “Goodgame Empire” is a fun strategy game with some
decent features. Multiplayer combat and interaction, such as trading,
are all handled with ease and add some variety to the game. The biggest
problem with the game is the fact that the interface is a bit clunky at
times, but this is very easily overlooked since the game is free.
“Goodgame Empire” is definitely worth a try.
