Physicar: A type of puzzle game combined with aspects of a racing simulator

Physicar has a two-dimensional side-scrolling appearance. The graphics are very nicely done. Everything has a consistent cartoonish look that is bright and interesting. Obstacles and other items are clearly defined. The music that plays in the background sounds professional. It matches the action taking place on the screen. The sound effects are fine although they lack any real punch during critical moments.

You are the driver of some type of two-wheeled vehicle in Physicar that looks like a motorcycle without a rider. The controls are very basic. You press D or the right arrow to move the vehicle forward. You press A or the left arrow to move backwards. Those same keys will also cause your vehicle to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise while in the air. There are no other controls for your car. Most of what happens to the vehicle occurs due to the physics programmed into the game.

The goal of Physicar is to complete all of the dozens of levels in the game. Each level consists of a combination of platforms and obstacles that you need to overcome. The obstacles are everything from steep drop-offs to floating spike platforms and bombs. You really have only a few ways to overcome obstacles. You might have to stop and wait for a platform to appear. You might have to accelerate as much as possible to fly off a ramp over the obstacles. You sometimes need to position your car correctly in order to barely pass through obstacles.

Each level in Physicar is basically a puzzle. The early levels have convenient signs letting you know when to stop, wait or accelerate. You eventually have to start figuring out how to complete the levels yourself through trial and error. You want to get through the level as quickly as possible since this affects your final score. You must also be on the lookout for any coins placed in the level. You need coins to buy upgrades for your vehicle. Even with less money you can upgrade the tires, toughness and speed of the car.

One minor drawback of Physicar is that the physics can seem a little unpolished at times. There are some levels where the effects of the physics code seems to be a little too extreme causing your car to do bizarre things. Physicar is a fun, casual game that is worth playing.
