Sumo Sushi Puzzle uses bright, colorful and whimsical graphics for everything. The animations on the screen are smooth and predictable. Lighthearted music plays in the background that perfectly fits the gameplay. The sound effects are funny at times as a sumo wrestler on the bottom on the screen eats sushi rolls dropping from the game board. The music can be disabled.

Sumo Sushi Puzzle uses a very familiar format. There are a few dozen levels in the game. Your goal on each level is to match up pieces of sushi in as little time as possible and with as few clicks as possible in order to earn stars. If you do well, then you can get up to three stars. If you beat the level in a less efficient way, then you will get just one or two stars. A meter at the top of the screen while playing shows your progress towards three stars.

You don't need to visit the best sushi places to play this game. The basic gameplay in Sumo Sushi Puzzle involves pairing up similar pieces of sushi on a grid-like game board. You tap on two or more pieces in order to remove them from the board and send them to the sumo wrestler below. The complication is that the pieces of sushi need to be in adjacent squares or need to have a clear line of sight to each other that is not obstructed by other pieces of sushi. You win the level by matching up all the sushi and clearing the entire board.

The initial levels are simple and are training stages. An animated hand and some arrows show you the rules. The levels then start to get more challenging. The boards take on a variety of sizes and shapes instead of simple squares. It is important to assess all the sushi on the board. You need at least two pieces to make a combination and remove them. You also need to be careful about the order you remove the pieces. If there is not a clear horizontal, vertical or diagonal line of sight, then you cannot pair the sushi together.

This new puzzle game includes an achievement system to make playing more interesting. The amount of strategy you need to employ grows with each level. Fortunately, the game includes walkthroughs for the levels in case you become stuck. Sumo Sushi Puzzle is a fun and challenging puzzle game.
